Ashes littered the post-Tet landscape, too. Wasn't the Tet Offensive, in
addition to being a catastrophe and tragedy for all the combatants and
innocent civilians directly involved, evidence of a big miscalculation on
the part of U.S. Intelligence about the capabilities of the North
Vietnamese and Vietcong?  A wake-up call that might have alerted our
fearless leaders that we wouldn't be able to win the war? (And so might as
well stop then and spare the next few years of misery and suffering.) Or am
I all mixed up from sniffing mothballs and don't have my Vietnam War
history straight.
