P-ish book recommendation

read it spence--highly recommended.
another interesting item is the late Marguerite Young's "bio" of Eugene
Debs, never finished, worked on for 25 yrs before her death in 1995. I've
gotten 1/2 way thru Miss Macintosh. The Debs title which is called Harp
Song is non-fiction, but it could be classified as fiction. One of those
hard to pin down books. Not really about Debs but about America's
fascination with Utopia and equality, etc. in the 19th Century
