Some of the younger members of the list probably do not remember _The Deputy_ 
by Rolf Hochhuth & the controversy it spawned back in the 60s.  I read it 
when I was a high school student, & did a report on it, not realizing that my 
teacher was a very conservative Catholic.  He refused to grade the paper, 
instructing me to choose a different work.  The reasoning was that, since 
_The Deputy_ was a play, it was not appropriate for a "book" report.  This 
came out about the time the Eichmann trial in Israel was happening every 
night on TV.  Yes, those were interesting times! 
The idea that Pius XII be canonized should sicken the world.
