In my earlier post about the new issue of Pynchon Notes (40-41), I failed
to mention that there is a very interesting article called "Who Broke the
Bank at Monte Carlo?:  Musical Moods in the Casino Hermann Goering" by
Sally E. Parry that traces sources of the songs TRP mentions with
particular attention to "Vulgar Song" and "The Penis He Thought Was His
Own" -- another good reason to rush out and buy this issue. More info at
