"Scientific American" Scientific? with vague pynchonian allusions

 And, yes, at my local Safeway, SA is right up there with the Weekly World 
News and the Globe & National Inquirer.  A lot of former quasi-highbrow zines 
have been lowering (whoring?) themselves of late.  Harper's & Atlantic 
Monthly are offered in the magazine section at the above mentioned market.  
Most large news stands, in San Francisco at least, are even selling National 
Geographic.
 In a way, though, that's good, but only if the publications keep to their 
standards.  I haven't seen the offending issue of SA.
