GRGR(10) - Slothrop Takes a Persona

Slothrop's mustache is an act of rebellion. He's putting his male foot
down. It is a typical adolescent move.

He says it's a "Bad-GuY" kind (210.20). But Katje tires to culture it into
a good-guy one: Wyatt Earp (Now, how would this Dutch girl know about Wyatt
Earp?). Katje is working for Them.

But Slothrop is further messed with by other stylists. Now he's told by
General Wivern that his mustache looks like the one worn by Wilkes Booth
(Now how would a British General be so familiar with W.B.'s mustache?).
What he really needs is some wax to keep it from drooping, make it look more
British. General Wivern works for Them.

But with the "Prince of Wales" game, Slothrop puts his bad-guy foot down
again. He takes control again, for just a moment:

[K:] "Never mind him [Sir D.T.]. How much do you know?"

[S:] "What's that mean, never mind him? What do you do, just throw people
away?"

[K:] "Do you want to find out?"

[S:] He stands twisting his mustache. "Tell me about it."

They may have succeeded in reverting him to a state of helpless childhood,
but he's on his way to adulthood again with this statement of independence.
