Ektyooly, I'm American.  Saw _The Singing Detective_ in the San Francisco 
Film Festival several years ago.  Rented the video of _Lipstick On Your 
Collar_ (which, incidentally, takes place during the Suez Crisis.  I was 
delighted with both and am convinced that whoever wrote the original 
scenarios must have been influenced by Pynchon.
