It seems to me that we've switched authors here, from Pynchon to Iain
Sinclair... however

Seb:
>A still canal (the Grand Union)

Mark:
>Does the canal you speak of, 400 yards from the City, exist in the
>place of names

yep, although I think Seb's got his canals mixed up. The Grand Union runs
into the Thames at Brentford, well out into west London, but the Regents
Canal you can see the whereabouts of, and follow, from here:

http://uk.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?place=Eagle+Wharf+Road%2C+N1&db=london
&scale=10000&mapclick=0&local=h&width=500&height=300&X=532500&Y=183000&zs=&c
t=b6&GridE=&GridN=&scn=0&up.x=38&up.y=15

Some of Seb's descriptive stuff also sounds like walking up the River Lea
from Bromley-by-Bow.

Mark again:
>Do you know Christ Church Spitalfields? It is worth a long, long look

It's a beautiful church, as can be seen here:
http://www.davidric.dircon.co.uk/p_chrich.html

and I'll be playing football in its shadow tonight.

best

James
