Thax for the post, Ron.  Speculation is the book possibly centers around the 
famous mathematician and radical Sophia Kovalevski.  However, she was not 
part of Hilbert's circle and if memory serves, from the books I've read 
about her and Hilbert, that she did not stay in Gotingen, but was awarded a 
doctorate, in absentia.

Who knows what'll we;ll end up with--But the man hasn't disappointed yet...

P.S.  Reading Canetti's Crowds and Power--fascinating work about the 
pathologies of modern culture
