Osbie's next-to-last line on p. 536, "But the horse trough is waiting",
kind of threw me for a loop. Katya, interpreting the cryptic message of
the film, thought (p. 535) the horse trough was stagnation. But (at
least on first reading this line) I did not think Osbie meant,
"Stagnation is waiting."
Maybe he *did* mean that. But if not, if he had something else in mind,
that would mean Katje's interpretation of the film was wrong. But there
was a message in the film obviously, Osbie says as much. So it could be
that Katje and Osbie are talking to each other, thinking they're both
speaking the same language, but they're not communicating at all. Which
would be kinda interesting.
Is Osbie with the Counterforce or with Them? Is there any way of really
knowing who a spy is working for? It seems like Katje's rendezvous with
Osbie leads directly to the wierd double-agent party she attends
starting on p. 537 -- but I can't tell what kind of double-agents the
partygoers are.

ps. I must reiterate my suggestion that you listen to Blind Boy Fuller
while reading about the party. Nice rhythmic things start happening and
it puts your mind in a receptive mood.

A dialogue between the Intellect and the Senses.
I: It is by convention that color exists,
by convention sweet, by convention bitter.
S: Ah, wretched intellect, you get your
evidence only as we give it to you,
and yet you try to overthrow us. That
overthrow will be your downfall.
