I agree with the guy I heard on Democracy Now this morning
(http://www.democracynow.org) who described Bush as the choice of the
corporate oligarchy. Such a puppet, it's amazing that everybody
couldn't see the strings on TV last night. The things they can do
with 3D modeling software these days -- it looked as if Bush was
actually speaking those words! Amazing lip-sync integration.

FYI, my family lived in Midland, Texas when W was growing up there; I
didn't know him, he was among the guys whose families could send them
to fancy prep schools back East, but I knew quite a few people that
ran in that crowd (my father worked in the service end of the oil
business, selling specialized equipment to the exploration and
production guys like Bush Sr.). A sick scene, by any measure.

My favorite moment in his speech last night was his gratuitous
literary allusion to M&D, when he compared himself to George
Washington, "whose friends called him George W." And nobody laughed.

Good thing those protesters didn't have a chance to release the
skunks at the convention -- it would have been a tough call, I
expect, deciding which ones to send back to the zoo.
