There are reports of a plan by Speer to sneak Hitler and other Nazis
principals down the the river and canal system to the coast via motorized
barges.  After that broke down for lack of fuel, reliable sources say, he
plotted to have them rowed out.  Whatever became of this scheme I don't
know, but the image of the ever-loyal Bormann stroke-stroke-stroking der
Fuhrer through the German night, 'neath tracers and arcing allied shells,
leaves place for remembrance...
