There's a long and continuing tradition of academic doubletalk as a 
tool for Nazi apologists -- you've been around long enough to see 
quite a bit of it, I would expect.  I'm surprised to find rhetoric 
that sounds like that on the P-list, especially in the context of 
discussion of a novel, GR, which does not hesitate to incorporate 
documentary evidence of Nazi crimes as one of its many threads.
