Assuming you're talking about "The Good Soldier Schweijk" then I have to
agree with Mark in saying that you're not only wrong about the definition
of "schlemihl" but you haven't read "Schweijk" recenlty, since he is
anything but "smart, clever" and is "subversive" only in his ineptness as
a soldier.
