The double S is a referent not only to the SS, but to the double integration
process at the heart of the inertial guidance system of the V2, by which
acceleration is translated into velocity and then, by a second integration,
a specifically preset distance, that defines the precise moment of......
If one were to integrate a third time, i.e., if the distance/time curve were
to be integrated, the value obtained would be energy or work. Not actual
energy, but its representation, i.e., information signifying the amount or
"value" of the work done by the rocket engine up to that point.
The "third" integration, of course, is conspicuous because it is not
represented in the text. It is a secret integration to be performed by the
reader, but it takes work to understand "The Work."
Is the information one gains worth the effort? That may well depend on one's
beliefs. "It's up to you."
