There are significant differences between the various contemporary systems
of interpretation of the Tarot. Here is a list of the astrological
connections various commentators have made with The Tower, for example:

Banzhaf: Uranus/Saturn
Crowley: Mars
Masino: Mars
Muchery: Venus/Taurus
Papus: Capricorn
Thierens: Uranus
Wirth: Scorpio

There is no general agreement regarding associations of the Minor Arcana
suits with the elements either. Commonly:

Wands = Fire
Pentacles = Earth
Swords = Air
Cups = Water

But Thierens (in *The General Book of the Tarot*) offers:

Wands = Air (connected with Clubs)
Pentacles = Fire (connected with Hearts)
Swords = Earth (connected with Spades)
Cups = Water (connected with Diamonds)

Crowley (1875-1947) was a member of The Golden Dawn for a time (along with
Yeats btw) but was expelled for "extreme practices" and formed his own
breakaway order, The Silver Star. He settled for several years with some of
his disciples in The Abbey of Thelema near Cefalù on Sicily. But rumours of
drugs, orgies and magical ceremonies involving the ritual sacrifice of
babies culminated in his expulsion from Italy. He actually craved this type
of notoriety and liked to be known as "the great beast" and "the wickedest
man alive".
