This seems to be a theme of William Gibson's as well (not to mention an entire
wing of [su]cultural studies, e.g., Dick Hebdige, Subcultures), that bricolage
thing ((c) Claude Levi-Strauss; perhaps an alchemical thing as well?), and one
he might well have picked up from Pynchon (someone posted a very interesting
interview with WG here recently, in which he acknowledged TRPs influence, anyone
have that at hand?).  See, esp., Gibson's recent All Tomorrow's Parties ...
