So, what was the point of you writing, "I'm so glad Stacy is happy. I can
now go about earning a living with unbounded joy. I can't wait for her/his
sage insights and fresh wisdom," if not to bait me into what 75% of those on
this list do mainly: snipe and quibble and basically take up valuable space
on this list with their frequent bashings. And, take a look at your own
posting, pal. It smacks with condescension and arrogance for one who claims
to be arrogance-phobic. I may be a newcomer to this list but so were you at
one point. So, can the holier-than-me attitude. And, don't get me wrong: I
hate Bill Gates. The only thing I admire about him is his wallet (it's made
from real kids, you know). That comment was pure sarcasm (can you smell
it?). And, I already apologized for the baiting nature of my post to you in
a second post. And I would never think to debate authorial intentions based
on what I know of an author. Only a junior high intellect would do such a
lowbrow thing. My contention with authorial intent is that it should never
be debated, regardless. Whatever Pynchon intended in GR, he hasn't some out
and said. So, there's no point in even guessing about his intentions. My
only point with regards to authorial intent was what Jules Siegel alleges
Pynchon said, that he was so fucked up when he wrote many of the episodes in
GR that he had no idea what he intended.
So, if all you intended was a little good-natured sarcasm at my expense,
then I apologize for baiting you further into what I am trying to stop. I
shouldn't have done it. I think the whole mood of this list has seeped into
my emails as well. If you did intend to put me in a further bad mood, then
don't expect a get-well card. Like Crash Davis said in "Bull Durham" --
"You gotta play this game with fear and arrogance."
