For anyone in the Chicagoland area who's interested:

"Reading _Gravity's Rainbow_"
Saturdays, 10:00 AM–Noon
September 23–November 11
8 sessions, $130

Thomas Pynchon's _Gravity's Rainbow_ has been called the greatest
work of fiction of the late twentieth century. It is an encyclopedic
novel that takes place in Europe during the final days of World War II
and follows a number of characters through a bizarre labyrinth of
unconventional and often hilarious events. Pynchon's lyric prose, the
dense layering of plots and counterplots, and his compelling use of
metaphor have made this book both a challenge and a delight for readers.
The class will offer a strategy for approaching this monumental work of
fiction.

About the instructor: Gary Millman's seminars at the Newberry Library
have included Pynchon's _Mason & Dixon_ and the works of Herman
Melville.
