Inanimate objects

Reading through V I started thinking about inanimate objects, which are
frequently on Benny Profane's mind. I haven't had time to pursue this to any
great extent, but inanimate objects seem to be a recurring theme in several
of P's books. In V (I have not finished it yet, so can't say much about it),
in GR, where almost everybody are looking for 00000, searching for the truth
in the rocket. In M&D we have the mechanic duck, an inanimate object which
becomes sentient and also (if I'm not mistaken) immortal.

In V, Profane thinks that "inanimate money was to get animate warmth"
(Vintage p. 214). This, and the development from searching for rockets to
sentient mechanical ducks, is a something I feel might be worth pursuing.
Anyone?

Thomas
