"but sharper than a mother's tears
are the beatings mutti gave to me ..." (736)

[- well, in my personal case she (r.i.p) always told my father to do so, which
he, most of the time, did without any real commitment].

"... the being-beaten of the male fantasy, how i will call it shortly and
hopefully not misleadingly, is also a by regression humiliated being-loved
in the genital sense. the unconscious male fantasy thus has originally not
   sounded 'i am beaten by the father', (...), but rather 'i a m l o v e d
   b y t h e f a t h e r. it has, by the well known processes, been
   transformed into the conscious fantasy 'i a m b e a t e n b y t h e
   m o t h e r.' the beating-fantasy of the boy is, thus, from the very
beginning a passive one, truly originated from the feminine attitude towards
the father. it corresponds also, like the female one (that of the girl), to
the oedipus-complex, yet the expected parallelism between the two has given
   way to a common ground of another kind: i n b o t h c a s e s t h e
   b e a t i n g - f a n t a s y i s d e r i v e d f r o m t h e
   i n c e s t o u s f a t h e r - t i e."
