The Counterforce and Underworld

Though Pynchon brought up the idea of a "counterforce" in GR, we wonder
today about whether any type of resistance is ultimately futile against
(insert Them, The...).
Reading Mark Osteen's book on DeLillo, American Magic and Dread, his last
essay on Underworld does seem to hint at the fact that ultimately out of
containment, destructive weapons, and the waste they engendered (cause not
cock) new forms can be gathered from such shit as means for resistance:
examples are Klara Sax's art project with B-52s, Ismael Munoz's graffiti
(love that line: "I'm your own movie, motherfucker" or some such), the
Watts Tower, ad inf.
Seems to me such positive spins on things were somewhat clouded by the
malaise in the 70s--only thru today can we use the refuse of the past in
positive ways, as a means of usurping that which seems to have its tentacles
everwhere, but also using the processes those usurpers garner at every
street corner, for the purposes of a true counterforce. But we all need to
know and why the octupus is what it is, and why it brings so many over to
the dark side and what keeps us from it.
fwiw...
