"The Godolphin Gallery, highlighting the exploits of the equine heroes from
the world's number one thoroughbred operation, was launched on the 1st of
March, 2000.
Based next to Dubai's main racecourse at Nad Al Sheba, the Godolphin Gallery
is the place to visit, with exciting new state-of-art digital and
touch-screen displays, enabling visitors to experience some of modern
horseracing's most exciting moments.
A special section of the gallery celebrates the 55 Group & Grade One
victories achieved by Godolphin horses since the 1994 start of the private
racing stable of Dubai's ruling Maktoum family."

"Few horses have as much legend associated with them as does the Godolpin
Arabian, but little evidence can corroborate the stories of him being found
pulling a water cart in the streets of Paris, or being used as a teaser, or
the dramatic stallion battle with Hobgoblin over the lovely, but fickle,
mare Roxana.
The facts regarding his origin are few. [...]"
"Whatever his history, Mr. Coke brought the Arabian to England [...] Coke
died in August, 1733 at the young age of 32. In his will, he left his small
group of mares and foals, including Roxana and Lath, to a personal friend
and fellow horseman, Francis, the second Earl of Godolphin, son of the
controversial figure, Sidney, the first Earl."

"Founded in 1726, GODOLPHIN is one of the oldest girls' schools in the
country."
"History:
The School owes its name to the family of Godolphin, whose home was the
beautiful Godolphin House near Helston in Cornwall, and whose wealth came
originally from the Cornish tin mines.
A notable member of the family in the seventeenth century was Sidney, First
Earl of Godolphin and Treasurer in the reign of Queen Anne. His brother
Charles married a second cousin, Elizabeth Godolphin, whose home was at
Coulston in Wiltshire.
Elizabeth survived her husband by six years, and it is in her Will, dated
1726, that she stipulates that the yearly rents from land owned by the
Godolphin family were 'to be for ever applied for the better education and
maintenance of eight young Gentlewomen to be brought up at Sarum or some
other town in the county of Wiltshire under the care and direction of some
wise and prudent Governess or Schoolmistress.....to be taught to dance work
read write cast accounts and the business of Housewifery in the best manner
as can be afforded'."

"The little village of Godolphin Cross lies half-hidden in a valley on the
Hayle to Helston road. The Godolphin family, who gave their name to this
parish, made their fortunes in the rich mining area around Godolphin Hill.
Their manor house, which dates back to the 15th century, still attracts
tourists. Now that mining has ceased the constant thud of the tin stamps is
no longer heard and a more peaceful atmosphere prevails. Created from part
of Breage parish in 1846"
