Thanks for the link, excellent article! It reminded me
of Patrick Susskind's (sp?) novel 'Perfume' which if I
remember correctly takes place mostly in 18th century
France (it's been a couple years). The protagonist has
a preternatural sense of smell which he learns to use
as a subtle form of mind control by creating certain
scents. There's a lot more though, it's a beautiful
book, highly recommend it.
