And now for something completely unrelated, by way of introduction

Dave-
By way of introduction- I'm an undergraduate, French major at the
University of North Carolina, just jumped on the plait and have been
lurking for a few weeks or so. Recently began COL49 on my own time.
I could recommend the correspondence of Walker Percy and Shelby Foote-
if your friend is interested in American writing/history as well. The
letters are pretty accessible, that is- not written in highly stylized,
manneristic language, and are neatly collected in a single volume
(Correspondence of Walker Percy and Shelby Foote; Jay Tolson, Editor
;W.W. Norton).... I would also recommend Rilke's Letters to a Young
Poet, which I read in an introductory writing workshop.
Hope this helps- anyone with advice, or 'as you read' tips for COL49,
feel free to respond on/off list.
Best,
John Tarleton
