Howdy
Curious irrational little hyphen they throw in, there... keeps the
abbreviation from being a mechanical sort of thing. It's almost
romantic, isn't it? Like abbreviating April Apl., which looks
pleasant, instead of Apr., which somehow doesn't look as much like
spring. Where does the hyphen come from? Do spec (spec.?) writers tend
to drop the periods, which disrupt the cohesion of a sentence unless
they are followed by a comma? Droppping the perrriods whould make the
hyphen helpful.
Amused by the pointless, and looking like a crank, I remain
