No problem. According to Weisenburger via Henry and Charles Adams
_Chapters of Erie_, "It has gone where the woodbine twineth" was
Jubilee Jim Fisk's answer to the congressperson who asked where the
money from the Erie Railroad, of which Fisk was a principle owner, that
was used in an attempt to corner the gold market and ruin the stock
market in September 1869. When he was asked what this phrase meant, he
replied, "Up the spout." His failed stock market coup was an effort to
bankrupt his railroad competitors. Jay Gould was his partner in this
scheme.

The "American yellow-seal script" was paper currency issued by the
Americans to be used in the territories occupied by the US in Europe
(they should have called it a "Zono"). It was counterfeited easily and
was a big black market commodity, so its use was discontinued in May
1945. This episode, of course, takes place in late July 1945. Hope
this helps.
