Here's the letter:

Dear Mr. Pyncho:

Thank you for submitting your story, Gravitys Rainbow, to The New Yorker.
We appreciate the interest in our publication that led you to bring your
story to our attention.

We are, however, sorry to inform you that the editors who review
manuscripts have decided that your submission is not compatible with the
editorial tone of the magazine. They suggest that, should you still wish
to submit manuscripts in the future, you first consider the approaches
recently taken by Dwight Macdonald, Joseph Mitchell, and especially J.D.
Salinger.

We wish you the best of luck in whatever your future writing plans may be.

Sincerely,

THE NEW YORKER

Only kidding, natch!
