Min Headroom?

Would someone like to explain (in simple non academic terms) exactly what 
has been going on that has driven the dude Charles H back into the dark 
where the lurkers dwell.  Since someone, without asking, chose to put me on 
the Dubious sub-list I have some inkling of the arguments going on. There 
must be some bemused people out there who have only caught the debris which 
has hit the p-list at large.  Am I alone in wondering what it was about 
Charles' original post which set off this cross between a flame war and a 
strobe light? Maybe it's only hacademic infighting, maybe it's illustrative 
of something more interesting.  Is there a non-participant in the know who 
can explain.
