I always get in trouble when I respond to these bad day at the beer hall
driven criticisms of the discussions on this list, but c'mon, we're having
fun aren't we? I've said before that I'm not an officially trained and
certified (tenured?) academic, and I have learned a lot from reading this
list (ncluding keeping my comments to myself most of the time). I appreciate
all the comments offered and skip the one's that I don't care to read all the
way through. Anyway, if we please you not, use the off button. ITM, keep
going on the way we have. I lurk, I like, but I don't contribute? Such is the
sad state of listening's reputation. Speech exists for the for the listener
as much if not more than for the speaker. Response is not a requirement, or
have things changed while I spent too much time hearing all those voices
rushing toward the void and plucked out a few to which to listen? Ah, once
again I've gone a rambling. Although born and reared in the Big Easy, I
languish in exile 90 miles away. I only have one Mardi Gras costume to make,
and it is simple and used every year although I try to vary the mask. I also
ahave a ball game to attend, so I must be going. Afore I do, mateys, I leave
you with these thoughts:
In the fresco, I am one of the figures in the background. At the centre the
Pope, the Emperor, the cardinals and the princes of Europe stand out. At the
margins, the discreet and invisible agents, who peep out from behind the
tiaras and crowns but actually sustain the whole geometry of the picture,
fill it and, keeping themselves undetected, let all those heads occupy the
centre.--Q's diary, first sentence, wu-ming writers collective

"The Fourth World" is the world with no attention of the media, which starts
on the other side of the fence of the White House.--Baudrillard America, 1986
