Gutenburg was a Catholic and Luther said of printing,
it is "God's act of grace, whereby the business of the
Gospel is driven forward."
Technology is a great irony.
Actually Gutenburg perfected the movable type printing
press and guess what he printed? An Astronomical
calendar. The clock, I think, is clearly the most
important technology of all time and the printing
press (and paper) is a close second. Just my stupid
opinion. Both come from China. Printing moved from
China to Japan and Korea and Italy had printing prior
to Germany.
Gutenburg is a good chose, but there are thousands of
individuals that might be considered worthy of the
prize.
Bloom doesn't mention William Gaddis?
