Cover proofs and galley proofs are generally sent separately for
checking and approval; the two departments of the publishing house
aren't even in physical proximity to one another in most instances. Any
editorial changes to a text for a new edition (not a reprint) have to be
OKed by the author first. It would be a clause in the contract.
