Yes, as Terrance and Ann have noted, it wouldn't have been the legal
consequences of messing with Nixon that might disturb sleep but the
extra-legal ones--getting on the enemies list in other words. Of
course, Pynchon's position on that lengthy document could never in
anyone's wildest dreams have risen to very far from the bottom, and even
it had no transparent disguise could have changed anything. Let's face
it. Richard M. Zhlubb is just funnier.
