While this midpoint is a great metaphor, so is brenschluss. After cutoff, 
everything is determined except for the influence of the wind, which is 
chaotic.

At this midpoint/apogee there is, naturally, no vertical speed. It's smooth 
sailing and easy reading for some number (I don't have GR handy) of pages 
before and after the middle. The changes (acceleration) during liftoff and, 
how you say, crash down are comparatively difficult, particularly for a 
first time GR reader. Anybody know how high the V2 went on its way to 
London?
