Well, Robert Coover sure has with trying to get The Public Burning
published, and not only naming names, but boy some of the things that Nixon
does. Many publishers rejected TPB, finally it was published in 1977. As
far as I know, there hasn't been any legal repercussions for Coover or for
his publisher. In 1987, Whatever happened to Gloomy Gus of the Chicago
Bears? was published, another short novel by Coover doesn't specifically
name Nixon but it is surely about the man. If there was a lesson to learn,
Coover hasn't learned it, and bless his smutty soul.
sorry, I'm on a Coover kick right now--devouring it all. Everyone should
read A Political Fable in anticipation of the upcoming elections.
I know who I'm voting for...
