  my dictionary translates these words into each other. the ethymological 
  lexikon gives as root forms of "minne" the middle high german "minne", the old 
  high german "minna", the old frisian "minne" & the old saxonian "minnia, 
  minnea". among the many "comparable" words, the lexikon names, is the russian 
  "mílyi" but, as far as i see, no english one. the already forgotten word   
  "minne" was re-introduced to the german language by the romantics. - kfl
