The Roman Catholic Church has written much about the revelation in and
importance of the Bible. Unfortunately I am away from my documents until
later this week so I can;t, dare I say it, give you chapter and verse. The
Church has always given the Bible highest rank, but as the inspired word of
God. the first part of the Mass is readings from both Old and New Testaments
and the homilies use the readings as their focus. While it is true that the
focal point and primary purpose of the Mass is the celebration of the
Eucharist, the word of God as written by His inspiration is as important as
anything else except the consecration of the bread and wine. Apostolic
tradition including within its broad scope those such as St. Augustine, St.
Thomas Aquinas, St. Jerome and other fathers of the Church is used in
conjunction with Scripture to make the Word relate to current life. At the
same time, the transcendent truths must not be corrupted into relativism.
Finally, Jesus Christ is worshiped as the Word of God, you know, Logos. The
Word as found in the Bible is culminated in the Christ.
Now, if there is a theologian on the list, she/he is possibly more learned
than I and can expound further. As for needing to be an "expert" in order to
comment such that at least one on the list feels secure that he is receiving
the facts(?), truth(?), well send in your credentials. Make it a two part
message at least, as your pronunciamentos have covered so many subjects that
one sheet certainly wouldn't do, you smug arrogant elitist probably damn
Yankee son of a bitch.
