A lit titbit.

Just gotten around to watching that Burgess Variations thing that was on
BBC over Christmas.

During his time as a critic, Anthony received this:

"Sir,

I am to inform you that the undermentioned publications, viz:

one (1) copy "Shadow & Self" by Ralph Ellison
one (1) copy "The Noble Savage" by Saul Bellow
one (1) copy "V" by Thomas Pynchon

have been temporarily detained for examination.

I am, Sir,
Your obedient servant,

f/Postmaster General.

GPO, Valletta, Malta.
20th February 1970."

Burgess was in one of his many locations in exile. Treacherous pasture,
that rock.

Also of interest, I see that Burgess, devoted Joyce fan that he was,
took to reading rather grandly from FW on American tv in "Lots of Fun at
Finnegans Wake". Date of transmission: 1973. Must have been a real
ratings winner. Anyone catch it?
