  many parts of the world as something unnatural, as a border crossing that is 
  connected to dangerous spiritual powers. the rainbow is the bridge to this 
  ghost world. the association of sunrain & rainbow with the uncanny &   
  disgusting is manifested in many cultural forms. in germany, for example, the 
  witches cook, or the devil is beating his wife. in sibiria or parts of south  
  america animals or ghosts do urinate. widely spread is the taboo to speak out 
  the rainbow's name or to point at it with the finger."
