Yo Dude,
You know in political campaigns there is the non-denial
denial. Have you ever thought of managing an election? Seriously, we'd have
to get into an infinite regress of defining "conspiracy theories" in order to
sort this all out. But I will take your advice and get right on that writing
a paper about it nonetheless. I'll send you a draft soon.
How about marijuana? The public has known since 1937, the
year it was made illegal, the year of TRP's birth, that marijuana is a
relatively benign intoxicant. There is a folk-wisdom that exists because the
use of marijuana is widespread. "Don't drive stoned." "Eat sugary food to
get straight." "The most common side effect of marijuana is unexpected
pregnancy." There is a folk wisdom that goes back at least three
generations. Yet the official position of our government is, "Marijuana is
the entry point for all the dangerous drugs. 90% of the hard drug users
start with marijuana." Of course, 90% of the hard drug users probably start
with Sunday school. So, the government has been telling us these lies about
the useful herb for over 60 years. When the issue of medicinal use of
marijuana made it to a referendum in the District recently, you might
remember Paul, 75% of the voters voted to legalize it. Yet it remains
illegal? Do you know what REAL SECRETS are involved in marijuana traffic?
Is that a REAL CONSPIRACY? Does keeping something illegal despite a 75% vote
to make it legal constitute a criminal conspiracy? huh? Is TRP crazy when
he writes about the excesses of the DEA in _Vineland_? Sometimes the
collective experience of the people, not some vague zeitgeist, is more
trustworthy than the official history, and the facts, like the knowledge of
radiation poisoning, are denied or covered up for generations. Enough double
talk. I expect more of you, Paul. And I expect an acknowledgement, you
naughty kitten.
Charles
