Yo Rob,
It's really nothing personal, it's not that I don't like you
or anything like that. I'm sure your heart's in the right place. But I find
these contradictions in your various postures difficult to reconcile.

It was you, not an impostor using your name, wasn't it, who
wrote to the eGAD list, about the time (Fri. Jan 21) you were excoriating me
for pulling critical privilege, that "It always saddens and bemuses me when I
see this type of complaint about professional academics and literary
scholars, women and men who have made a conscious choice to devote their
energy and career paths to interpreting and explicating literature for the
benefit of others." I mean, which way do you want it? Do you want to stand
for the little guy on the P-list, and rail against critical privilege, and
then stand with the big guys (with whom you unashamedly seek to curry favor,
and maybe a new job) on the eGAD list. It seems a little like the self
divided, a little cognitive disonance here. How can you expect me, or anyone
on the list, to take your rants seriously. I don't see any difference
between my work and the purple "research and travail in publishing and
publicising their readings of Gaddis's work," of O'Donnell, Steven More, Alan
Westrope and Ron Dulin. If you were a little more honest with the list and
with yourself you might have integrity and a moral center. This two-faced
stuff is a little much. IMHO, you damn me and suck up to them because it
suits your career. You ought to examine your motives.
                Charles Hollander
