Hey, thanks!  Forgot about Felipe Alfau's Chromos (which I've only just finally
picked up, but one can tell ...), and was afraid to mention Robert Coover's The
Public Burning after getting my hand slapped, and not underservedly so, for,
well, listing too many books by too many white guys, but, if there's one book
that's perhaps "of" Gravity's Ranbow's moment, TPB might well be it.  And,
certainly, Laurence Sterne's Tristram Shandy (the influenec of which on Pynchon
no doubt surfaced particulalry in the faux ye olde prose style of Mason and
Dixon), Herman Melville's The Confidence-Man and that Nathanael West oeuvre
would, I think, be esp. interesting to any Pynchon fan who didn't arrive at
TRP, Jr. via those works already ...
