John asks in reference to Lem books:
"Which is the book of forewords to non-existent books?"
Otto gave us the German title, but the title for the English version
was _Imaginary Magnitude_ and was published in hardback in 1984 by
Harcourt Brace Jovanovich and in paperback by Harvest/HBJ in 1985. The
original Polish version was published in 1973. It has five sections:
the introduction to _Necrobes_ by Cezary Strzybisz, the introduction to
_Eruntics_ by Reginald Gulliver, the introduction and introduction to
the second edition of Volume I of _A History of Bitic Literature_ by
Juan Rambellais et al, the Proffertinc and Sample Pages from
_Vestrand's Extelopedia in 44 Magnetomes_, and a sizable section of an
imaginary book called _Golem XIV_, consisting of a foreward, a
introduction, instructions, "Golem's Inargural Lecture - About Man
Threefold," "Lecture XLIII - About Itself," and an afterword. It's a
positively hysterical book!! If you can find it, but it and read it.
The most recent new work of Lem's published in English, that I know of,
is the novel _Fiasco_, published in 1987. He and Barry Malzberg seem
to have disappeared (perhaps dead?). My favorite Lem is _Return from
the Stars_.
