"Jew-zeppy" indeed is JFK's father, US ambassador in London from 1937-1940,
who "(...) was dogged by charges of anti-Semitism." (Weisenburger, p. 286) I
think this is the only "conformation" (kind of) that JS has told the truth
when he told how TRP had introduced him to his mother.

"before you heard how Jack was" refers to the PT-109 incident (Aug. 1943),
where JFK was Missing in Action like Slothrop is. (Weisenburger, p. 287)

"Notice Nalline's vocabulary: "it's every parents' dream" (not nightmare)
when our sons are reported Missing in Action, and although John Kennedy of
course survived the famous PT-109 sinking, we are still left with a strong
impression of disappointment that he has survived." (Douglas Fowler, p. 244)
