Aidan Chambers caused a stir when he won the
 prestigious Carnegie Medal for children's books,
 chosen by librarians, on Friday. In his
 acceptance speech he urged that those in
 government who make decisions about literary
 education should publish their own reading
 diaries, without which we could have no
 confidence in their qualifications to make such
 decisions. His book, Postcards from No Man's
 Land, which deals with issues of sexuality (of all
 kinds) and euthanasia, had also triumphed over
 the shortlisted Harry Potter.
