Very good post. Pynchon does an excellent job of defining the 
outlines of this system of control. He also identifies a number of 
more specific corporate and government entities, and even 
individuals, who serve this system.

If you don't know, rj's original literary interest was Ayn Rand.  I 
haven't gone back to the archive to double check, but I'm pretty sure 
he shared that info with the P-list not long after he joined a couple 
of years ago.
