... just went back through Friedrich Kittler's "Media and Drugs in
Pynchon's Second World War" (trans. in at least both Joseph Tabi and
Michael Wutz, eds., Reading Matters: Narrative in the New Media Economy
as well as Kittler's collected essays, Literature, Media, Information
Systems, ed. John Johnston), which reminded me that, among other
things--and here Kittler is drawing on Paul Virilio's discussion in War
and Cinema--of Albert Speer's notion that architecture "must incorporate
its eventual 'value as ruins.'"  As well as stuff on Nordhausen and, of
course, Gravity's Rainbow ...
