Of course you are right that Enzian is Moses. But he's Jesus too - it's hard
to invent an extravagant hero. John Barth talks
about it in *Mystery and Tragedy* (The Friday Book, p. 41-54, esp. 42-43).
The circumstances of his conception are unusual, and at birth an attempt is
made on his life, usually by his father or his maternal grandfather, but He
is spirited away, and reared by foster parents in a far country. We are told
nothing of his childhood, but on reaching manhood he returns or goes to his
future kingdom and has to fight with a king and /or a giant , dragon, or
wild beast.
