I don't want to get technical about it, but two turn tables
and microphone, the human voice, the hand to turn the sound,
these are instruments, right? The story about Grandmaster
Flash is not quite true, but is Legend, the legend, as so
often happens, is accurate in its implications, if not in
its facts. The two turntables and the microphone were in use
as interments before this legendary Harlem night and money
was not really the reason why turntables were used instead
of paint buckets or penny whistles.
Improvised oral composition....hmmm, people's republic of
RR, "They killing us in the streets while we cry for the
conscience of King....Everybody knows about Mississippi
Goddam...."
