They are indeed often poor and they're not yet caught up in The ubiquitous
and iniquitous System with all the psychological and socio-economic
blackmail that goes along with it, so perhaps they *are* ripe for Pynchon.
And not just your post-compulsory subsidised crowd either, though I note
that Santa Clara college does have that 'Luddite' essay at the top of its
Media and I.T. course reading list. Wasn't there a high school teacher
asking for program materials to teach *Lot 49* here recently? And 'TSI'
would make a great addition to a mid-teen syllabus too I think.
But, of course, if it's just "entertainment" y'all be a-wantin' then perhaps
Harry Potter *is* the go.
